Extended Access

The Extended Access Service is an extension of your usual primary care service. It makes it easier for you to get an appointment at a time that suits you, this includes evenings and weekends.

This service offers appointments at times over and above those currently available, including on weekdays until 7:45pm, and also some appointments on Saturdays. Please see timings below.

This is not a walk-in service, you must book an appointment through the reception team at our surgery in the usual way.

Where will my appointment take place?

For all our patients registered with us, the extended access appointments on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be at;

Burbury Medical Centre

311 Burbury Street, Lozells

Birmingham

B19 1TT

Who would benefit from this service?

All currently registered patients who reside within our catchment can access these additional appointments.

If you:

  • Find it difficult to attend an appointment during the working day
  • are a busy parent with small children
  • or rely on working carers to take you to appointments

The SDS MyHealthcare Extended Access Service eases the pressure on:

  • GP Practices
  • A&E Departments and Walk-In Centres
  • Secondary Care

How Can I book an appointment?

Contact the practice in the usual way and request an appointment. If an extended access service appointment is available, you'll be able to book this if this is more convenient for you.

What time and day wille extended access appointments be available for?

Day

Burbury Medical Centre Extended Access
Monday 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Tuesday 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Wednesday Not available
Thursday 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Friday  6:30pm - 8:00pm
Saturday 8:30am - 12:30pm
Sunday Not available

What can I be seen for?

A GP Extended Access appointment is exactly like an appointment at your own GP practice. You can discuss any aspect of your healthcare with the GP or nurse that you see.

Will I see my own GP and/or nurse?

Not necessarily. You will be seen by an experienced GP or nurse, but it is unlikely that you will be seen by your own GP or nurse. If you prefer to see your usual GP or Practice Nurse, please book at appointment with Queslett Medical Centre during our normal opening hours.

Will the clincian I see have access to my medical record during my appointment?

Your medical records will, with your consent, be available to the GP or nurse that sees you, to ensure that they have the information they need to give you the best possible care. A record of this appointment will be sent back to your own GP Practice electronically to ensure that your GP medical record is kept up-to-date.  An appointment with this service will be just like an appointment at our practice.

What about patient records?

Hub GP's have access to the patients full medical record, as long as the patient gives their consent. This means that they can receive personal GP care.

I have opted out of Your Care Connect. Can I get an appointment?

Unfortunately not. We are unable to see patients who have opted out of sharing their medical records.

What if I need an interpreter?

Please let us know when booking your appointment and we will inform the practice to organise this for you.

How do I cancel an appointment?

If you need to cancel the appointment, please ring through to Burbury Medical Centre on 07943058104.

Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistants

With this SDS MyHealthcare service, you can use the extended access facility to see both Practice Nurses and HCA's. Practice nurses and HCAs are available for face-to-face appointments at the hubs. They can help with the following:

  • Dressings/routine wound management
  • Injections (B12, Flu, Shingles, Pneumonia)
  • Lifestyle Advice
  • Pill check
  • QOF reviews (e.g Asthma, Diabetic)
  • Smear
  • Stitch & Clip removal
  • Swabs

Where can I go to plan my Journey?

Birmingham City Council website

Note: Our phone lines are not open on Saturdays so any changes to a Saturday appointment need to be informed before the day or please contact Burbury Medical Centre (07943058104) on the day of appointment.
